Africa by Horse grew out of a dream for more horses, more freedom in life, and more Africa. It was founded and is run by me, Liza, with support and help from family, friends, and local contacts in Southern Africa.

Today, Africa by Horse helps horse and riding enthusiasts, regardless of their level, find their dream trip to Africa. Our destinations are handpicked, and we only collaborate with operators we trust – with the goal of personally visiting every safari included in our portfolio.

Transparency

You should always know what you're booking. That’s why we are clear about what is included, what the experience is like, and what you can expect on site – from accommodation to animal encounters and pace. No unexpected surprises, just clear information, so you can feel confident in your decision when choosing your riding trip.

Horse welfare

The horses are the heart of every safari, and their well-being is our top priority. We only work with safari operators who share our view on horse welfare and treat their animals with respect, care, and knowledge. Our destinations are handpicked, and we decline partnerships that do not meet our standards of horse welfare.

Founder, Africa by Horse

"

Born and raised into a large harness racing family in Eskilstuna, I was surrounded by horses before I could even walk. I began riding when I was five and got my first pony at the age of ten. As a child and teenager, I competed in dressage, and horses have more or less always been a part of my life.

Africa by Horse actually began during an elephant safari in Sri Lanka. Touched by the experience and reminded of an old dream I had carried – to go on a riding trip – I realized I could experience Africa’s wildlife and untouched nature from horseback. It was like someone had combined everything I love into one experience. The first riding trip went to Zimbabwe, and I was immediately bitten by the African bug...

My next volunteer trip took me to Botswana, where I schooled safari horses. That's when I started my Instagram – @africabyhorse. At my consulting job in Stockholm, me and my colleagues joked about that I was now becoming an influencer. Although the influencer dream was quickly put on hold, the dream of creating something that involved more horses and more Africa remained. After a total of ten months in various parts of Southern Africa – and the realization that few Scandinavians seemed to know that horseback safaris exists – the idea started to take shape. Are there more people like me out there? As my social media channels began to grow, I landed in the idea... The dream of getting people to discover what I love – safari on horseback.

My motivation lies in matching you, a horse and riding enthusiast, regardless of level, with the most powerful experience I have ever had – discovering Africa and its animals and nature from horseback. For me, it has always been important to know what I can expect, to feel safe traveling as a young, solo woman to foreign countries, and most importantly – that the horses who carry us through our greatest adventure are treated with respect, dignity, and warmth. That is what I want to convey to you. I can’t wait to hear your stories of incredible encounters, magical canters into the sunset, and of course, the plans for your next Africa trip...
