fr £5390

This riding safari is nothing less than the perfect way to discover the flora and fauna of the Okavango Delta. Your base is Kujwana Delta Camp, a true wilderness camp set in the heart of the Delta. You’ll experience fantastic riding combined with picnic lunches, three-course dinners in the bush, and a variety of other activities such as mokoro excursions, bush walks and tracking, game drives, and motorboat trips (depending on water levels).

"

Too many memorable moments to list from the few days I’ve been here, my abs are as sore from laughing as they are from riding and my face hurts from wearing the biggest grin the past three days. So grateful for the experience, to have met such wonderful people, to ride such beautiful horses and have some epic experiences with the local wildlife. Thanks to everyone for making this an incredible trip – I’ll be bragging about the experience for some time and telling so many people to visit and experience a safari or horseback with OHS.

About

Galloping side by side with a giraffe is an experience you will never forget. The sounds of the wilderness – fish eagles calling, the splash of water as a crocodile dives, or the echo of hooves across the plains – are the only things that break the silence as you explore the Okavango Delta on horseback.

With Okavango Horse Safaris you will experience spectacular landscapes, knowledgeable guides, and outstanding bush accommodation — all with a level of safety that comes from three decades of experience. Your main base is Kujwana Camp, located in NG30, a luxury tented camp on the Xudum River with a pool, wooden decks, and views over the floodplain where zebras and giraffes often pass by. The camp offers Wi-Fi, relaxing spaces, and comfortable rooms with ensuite bathrooms. On request, you can also stay on raised platforms or in a secondary camp, where a more secluded and pared-back wilderness experience awaits.

The safari offers a variety of experiences: full-day rides through river landscapes and savannas, bush dinners, picnics on shady islands, and tranquil excursions in mokoro canoes.

The horses are the heart of the safari – carefully selected for their temperament and suitability. The string includes Thoroughbreds, Arabs, Boerperds, and crossbreeds, many personally chosen from Zimbabwe and South Africa. When not out on safari, they roam freely across the grassy molapos – a sight that is unforgettable in itself.

The Okavango Delta is one of the world’s most unique ecosystems — an inland delta that flows into Botswana’s arid Kalahari Desert. Here, open savannas, flooded grasslands, and palm-fringed islands form habitats for elephants, buffalo, hippos, lions, leopards, giraffes, and hundreds of bird species. Experiencing this untouched paradise from horseback offers an unparalleled closeness to nature.

Accommodation

Accommodation during the safari is mainly Kujwana Camp, an exclusive tented camp beautifully located on the Xudum River. Here, authentic bush atmosphere is combined with high comfort – guests stay in spacious tents with ensuite bathrooms and can enjoy a pool, wooden decks, and Wi-Fi. The views over the floodplain often reveal a variety of passing wildlife, ensuring you are always surrounded by nature.

On request, and at an additional cost, you may also book one of the two spacious Riverside Suites – Hippo Cradle or Rocking Horse – both offering spectacular views over the river. During the safari, a stay at the so-called fly camp is also possible (see further below), providing a more secluded wilderness experience.

Kujwana Camp
(standard accommodation)

With outstanding comfort and private bathrooms, the standard tents, built on fixed canvas structures, offer everything you need to enjoy an authentic safari experience. The tents are nestled within the camp’s groves, where you are constantly surrounded by the wonderful songs of birdlife. Expect visits from vervet monkeys and perhaps even a morning wake-up by an elephant quietly feeding on marula fruit along the riverbank.

With both double and twin tents, we can accommodate groups of all sizes.

These tents are currently under renovation, and new photos will be available soon

Kujwana Camp
Riverside Suites

Kujwana Camp, Riverside Suites

The Riverside Suites are beautifully situated on the Xudum River – offering views of the river during the winter months, and in summer overlooking a waterhole where elephants often gather to cool down. From the veranda, you can watch elephants bathing and colorful kingfishers resting on the branches of ancient fig trees.

Elegantly decorated and full of charm, these suites provide the perfect combination of luxury and wilderness.

Here, you can fall asleep to the sound of hippos grazing below the veranda and wake up to a sunrise filling the room with warm light. The suites are especially appreciated by couples and honeymooners seeking a romantic and secluded experience with that little something extra.

Fly Camp

The term ‘fly camp’ refers to a temporary camp that can easily be moved – a classic safari tradition.

On safaris lasting five nights or longer, two nights at the fly camp are included. You’ll find luxurious and spacious tents with comfortable beds, as well as hot showers in your ensuite bathroom.

The experience begins with a full-day ride from Kujwana Camp, deep into the more remote wilderness of the Delta. After two nights of exploration and overnight stays in this area, you return to Kujwana Camp enriched by an authentic and unforgettable bush experience.

Accommodation at the fly camp can also be opted out of entirely, if preferred.
