Accommodation
On this safari, you will stay in three different accommodations – a stationary camp, a mobile fly camp, and a 5-star lodge.
Wildside Tented Camp
Fly Camp
Kingfisher Lodge
Wildside Tented Camp is located on the lower escarpment and offers a classic safari experience close to nature. Here you stay in individual tented chalets with private bathrooms, placed beneath the trees and designed to blend in with the bush. The accommodation is simple yet comfortable, focusing on proximity to the surroundings rather than luxury. The communal areas consist of an open lounge and bar space as well as a boma where the fire is lit in the evenings. It is here that the days are summed up, stories are shared, and the sounds of the bush take over as darkness falls. The nights are spent with wildlife as a backdrop – sometimes at a distance, sometimes closer – giving a genuine feeling of being right in the reserve.

Departure
After an early breakfast, the logistics team takes care of your luggage. You meet the horses at Hippo Boma, a short walk from the rooms, and ride between 07:30 and 11:30 down the escarpments through both the upper and lower parts of the reserve. The descent also involves some walking on foot, but it is less demanding than the uphill route and therefore everyone is recommended to walk this section rather than use a vehicle. For those who need transport, this can be booked in advance. On arrival at the lower escarpment, day rooms are available for showering and changing, and lunch can be pre-booked before departure. The transfer usually leaves between 13:00 and 13:30, arriving at the airport at around 16:30 for the onward flight.

Programme
5 nights (itinerary for 2027)
Day 1
Wildside Tented Camp
Meet and airport pick-up followed by transfer to Wildside Tented Camp. You arrive in time for lunch, meet your guide and receive a briefing on the week ahead. After lunch, your first game drive awaits, with a chance to see the Big Five from the vehicle. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Wildside Tented Camp.
Day 2
Fly Camp
The day begins with a game drive at 06:00, followed by breakfast at 09:00. Riding starts a little later today, when the lions are usually less active. At 10:00, you ride through the lower escarpment and up the steep Yellowwood Escarpment. Some walking on foot is required, but a vehicle follows the group for anyone who prefers to ride up. Lunch is served at the rock pools, with the opportunity for a dip. Afterwards, the ride continues through varied scenery and open plains filled with wildlife. You arrive at Fly Camp at around 15:30 after approximately 4.5 hours of riding and about 40 minutes on foot along southern Africa's steepest man-made road. Welcome drinks and views over the bush await on arrival. Comfortable shoes and chaps are recommended for this day. Overnight at Fly Camp.
Day 3
Fly Camp
Early in the morning, you set off on a sunrise ride of around 2.5 hours to a spectacular viewpoint high above the reserve. You ride out in the dark as the bush awakens around you. Back at Fly Camp, a generous breakfast awaits. Afterwards, there is time to relax and hopefully see animals moving close to camp. Lunch is served at 12:30, followed by another approximately 2.5-hour afternoon ride along the upper escarpment. The evening ends with a three-course dinner by candlelight, drinks around the fire and stories from the day's experiences. Overnight at Fly Camp.
Day 4
Fly Camp
After breakfast, a morning ride of around 3 hours awaits, with slightly more technical riding through rock formations and past dams where hippos can sometimes be seen. Bush lunch is served between 12:30 and 13:30 before the ride continues until around 15:30. Back at camp, there is time to freshen up before another three-course dinner is served by candlelight. Overnight at Fly Camp.
Day 5
Kingfisher Lodge
After breakfast, the staff usually say farewell with song and dance before you leave Fly Camp. With your luggage ready, you ride for around 3 hours to Kingfisher Lodge. You arrive in time for lunch at the five-star lodge, where a little extra comfort awaits after several days in the saddle. Relax by the private pool or pre-book a massage before the afternoon game drive. Dinner is served back at the lodge, possibly in the boma. Overnight at Kingfisher Lodge.
Day 6
