Do you prefer to observe the animals in a different way than from horseback?
Even guests who do not ride have a fantastic experience at OHS – mokoro trips, speedboat tours, game drives, and guided hikes – there is an opportunity to experience it all. Non-riders meet up with riders for picnic lunches, afternoon activities, bush dinners, fly camps, and overnight stays under the open sky, so if you are traveling as a mixed group, you will still spend plenty of time together.
Accommodation
Accommodation during the safari is mainly Kujwana Camp, an exclusive tented camp beautifully located on the Xudum River. Here, authentic bush atmosphere is combined with high comfort – guests stay in spacious tents with ensuite bathrooms and can enjoy a pool, wooden decks, and Wi-Fi. The views over the floodplain often reveal a variety of passing wildlife, ensuring you are always surrounded by nature. On request, and at an additional cost, you may also book one of the two spacious Riverside Suites, both offering spectacular views over the river. During the safari, a stay at the so-called fly camp is also possible (see further below), providing a more secluded wilderness experience.

Programme, Kujwana Delta Ride
The itinerary serves as a guideline. Changes may occur due to the movement of game, weather conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances. Any adjustments made will always be with the safety and best interests of the safari experience in mind.
Day 1
Arrive at Maun Airport and transfer to Kujwana Camp – either by a short helicopter flight or a light aircraft plus vehicle/boat transfer (water levels permitting). After settling into your spacious tent and enjoying lunch or afternoon tea, meet your guides for an introductory talk followed by a relaxed 1.5–2 hour orientation ride. Dinner is served in our elevated dining area.
Day 2
Wake up to tea or coffee in bed, surrounded by the sounds of the bush. After breakfast, set out on a morning ride through the Xudum area: wade across lush molapos, pass herds of elephant and buffalo, and perhaps surprise a shy reedbuck. After lunch and siesta, glide through the channels in a mokoro canoe and watch the Delta’s colours shift with the setting sun.
Day 3
Ride about 30 km across floodplains and islands towards the Qwaapu River system. Stop for a picnic and siesta on a shady island, then continue in the afternoon to arrive at fly camp at sunset. Relax with a drink and admire the views before settling into your luxurious tent with ensuite hot shower.
Day 4
Give the horses a rest with a morning game drive and bush walk – perfect for tracking predators such as leopard and wild dog. After lunch and siesta, enjoy an afternoon ride exploring the remote eastern concession, crossing hippo channels and varied game habitats.
Day 5
A full-day ride returning to camp via mopane forests, rain pans, and acacia woodlands where elephant, giraffe, kudu, and other wildlife thrive. Picnic en route, and if water levels allow, finish by swimming your horse back into camp.
Day 6
A morning ride, perhaps on a new horse from our carefully trained string. After lunch and rest, set off for a special bush dinner followed by a night drive back to camp – with chances to see nocturnal creatures and marvel at the stars.
Day 7
Search on horseback for any wildlife still missing from your sightings list, followed by a barbecue lunch by the pool hosted by your guide. Afternoon is free for a ride, an activity of choice, or simply relaxing with a book.
Day 8
Ride east of camp through riverine forest and shady rain pans, with a chance of encountering elephants or buffalo. After an early camp dinner, transfer to our raised platforms and fall asleep under the stars, lulled by the sounds of the bush.
